Caution.

   Fjord Approach.
Unless the ceiling is at least 4.000ft and the flight visibility at least 5sm (8km), pilots without a good knowledge of the local topographical and meteorological conditions are advised not to make any attempt to approach Narsarsuaq through the fjords.

   Windshear and Turbulence.
Strong easterly winds can create severe turbulence and windshear in vicinity of the airport.
Most turbulence is found in areas south of the airport, especially at Qoroq fjord aprx 5nm southeast of the airport.
Heavy downdraft can occur in Flower Valley northeast of the runway.

   Airspace and Separation.
Narsarsuaq TIZ is uncontrolled airspace, and flight control is not available.
Separation during approach and departure is pilots responsibility.

Traffic information about other flights inside TIZ will be provided by Narsarsuaq AFIS.

Remarks.

   Short Groundstop.
Fuel and met-briefing will be ready, if you prefile your outbound flight plan with AFIS before arrival.
A typical ground stop is 45 minutes.

   Airport Opening.
For operations outside Operational Hours contact Narsarsuaq AFIS and provide the following information:
Date and time for arrival.
Aircraft type, callsign and registration, and in case of commercial flight number of passengers.
Date and time for departure.

   ETOPS.
BGBW is available for ETOPS. AFIS is on 24 hour watch, and the Airport can usually open on request on short notice.
Narsarsuaq is located 350NM south of Sondrestrom and halfway between Keflavik and Goose Bay.
For many transatlantic flights the saving in fuel consumption significantly exceeds an airport opening fee.

   Airport Opening for ETOPS.
For ETOPS outside Operational Hours contact Narsarsuaq AFIS and provide the following information:
Date and period BGBW must be available.
Aircraft type, callsign and registration.
Name and address for billing.
